The Wollar Solar Farm is under construction with a workforce desperate to find nearby accommodation.

Dear Premier and Ministers,

I urge you to honour the NSW Government promise to address the chronic housing shortage across NSW.

Unfortunately, Peabody Energy are pulling down houses in the Wollar Village and surrounding region with Department of Planning approval after they forced out local residents with their coal mining and expansion plans.

At the same time, they are seeking to build temporary workers accommodation for mine workers.

As the largest landowner and housing property manager in the Wollar district due to repeated coal mine expansions, Peabody should be required to protect housing stock they’ve bought up and to build additional permanent housing.

Therefore, we’re calling for the current application by Peabody (SSD-6764-Mod 2) for temporary accommodation to be rejected.

Instead, the NSW Government should require Peabody to build permanent accommodation and to maintain existing housing stock instead of tearing it down, as part of its commitment to urgently address the housing crisis.

The Mudgee Region urgently needs more permanent housing and rental accommodation for workers on renewable energy projects.

Please act in accordance with your housing policies and don’t make the housing crisis worse by allowing Peabody to build cheap, temporary accommodation for workers whilst tearing down houses in Wollar Village.
