The US coal mining company, Peabody Energy, has bought up numerous houses in the Mudgee district and surrounds, including most of Wollar Village, after forcing local people out with its coal expansion plans.

Now they plan to pull down those houses, while building temporary workers accommodation for their own mine workers at the Wilpinjong Coal Mine site.

NSW and Mudgee Region have a major housing crisis with accommodation demand outstripping housing stock. Large new renewable energy projects and transmission lines are proposed for the Central West Renewable Energy Zone, including at Wollar, yet workers cannot find anywhere to live.

The Wollar Solar Farm is under construction with a workforce desperate to find nearby accommodation.

Send a message to the NSW Premier

Send a message to the NSW Premier, Housing Minister and Planning Minister saying no to temporary workers accommodation and calling on them to make Peabody Energy maintain existing housing stock and build new permanent housing.
