Hands off our charities

Assistant Treasurer Michael Sukkar is trying to push through unprecedented new regulations that would create risk and red tape for all Australian charities.

The Liberal-led Senate committee has significant concerns with the proposed regulations and even the current Charities Commissioner, Gary Johns, admitted that there’s no evidence suggesting these new regulations are needed.

Prominent legal voices have also raised concerns, including the Law Council of Australia and top-tier law firm Arnold Bloch Liebler.

The Human Rights Law Centre has a briefing note here setting out the problems and concerns with the proposed regulation.
