To the Regional Planning Interest Act, Development Assessment Team,

The Regional Interest Development Approval Application for Deviated wells under six properties on the Darling Downs should be refused under the RPI Act and RPI Regulation 2014.

We need to protect our food bowls from the impact of coal seam gas - these wells will damage some of Queensland’s highest value agricultural land and should be rejected.

Arrow’s activities will drain groundwater relied on by farmers, and cause subsidence of the land as soil and rock layers compact when water and gas are removed.

Arrow Energy has a track record of breaching laws that protect farmers and our environment. They should not be trusted to drill under farms with impunity. If and when impacts from these gas wells are felt by farmers they will have to prove Arrow is to blame. This causes undue stress and expense.

Queensland is already seeing coal seam gasfields draining groundwater that farmers depend on. As this industry encroaches onto some of our best farmland the government should draw a line in the sand.

So far the RPI Act has failed to protect farmland from coal seam gas. I appreciate the opportunity to make a submission on this Regional Interest Development Approval as the time is right to show that our laws can stand up to protect farmers and farm land from gas.
