The Qld Govt made mine rehabilitation a major plank of their election platform in the lead-up to the last election. However, the Bill they have since introduced will allow mining giants to continue to leave vast, unfilled pit voids and waste dumps.

The Bill contains loopholes that mining giants will drive their bulldozers and draglines right through.  It will mean business as usual for companies to leave behind environmental hazards and ruined land that can never be used for any purpose again.

All they need to do is argue it is too expensive for them to backfill, or that the damage will only be ‘localised’.
