The Wide Bay Burnett region is a valuable food bowl full of vibrant farming communities. It is known for its rich soils, food crops and as an international tourism destination.

It’s also a globally significant environment, home of the Great Sandy Straits, Fraser Island, Mon Repos and the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

But it’s under threat from Blue Energy’s proposed shale gasfields.

A new report on the economic impacts of gasfield development in the region shows that it would, if allowed to proceed, put agricultural jobs at risk and reduce agricultural output.

It will produce a boom/bust economy and do nothing for Queensland - analysis shows that gas companies have only paid 6% of the royalties they originally predicted.

Take Action

Blue Energy’s shale gas exploration permits are due to expire at the end of this year.

This is our big chance to ensure that they are not renewed, and to protect the rich farmland, breathtaking beauty and unique heritage of the Wide Bay Burnett.
